Travel Information

Getting there: 

The closest airport is Reno International Airport (RNO). Reno Airport has over 20 nonstop flights. From Reno Airport, it is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes drive to South Lake Tahoe. Rental cars are available, as well as taxis and ride share apps (Uber, Lyft). The South Lake Tahoe Airporter https://southtahoeairporter.com/ provides a shuttle service from Reno airport to South Lake Tahoe for $33 one way and $60 round trip.

  • Take the Airporter to the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (LTRH). This location is approximately two miles from our conference location in the Stateline casino area. 

  • From the LTRH, use a rideshare app or the free Lake Tahoe area transit app, Lake Link (operates 7 am to 9 pm), to get to Beach Retreat and Lodge. Information on Lake Link here: https://ltva.org/lake-link-transportation/ or in the app store. 

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is also an option. It is approximately 2 hours 15 minutes drive from South Lake Tahoe. Rental cars are available at this airport. 

Travel around South Lake Tahoe:

Weather and Climate

Lake Tahoe is located at 6200 ft, those sensitive to changes in elevation may experience mild elevation sickness.

Will there be snow? 

May weather is highly variable.  Late May snow showers are not uncommon. Roughly a week before the conference we will inform attendees of any major weather events that could affect travel. Stay tuned to the Reno National Weather Service office https://www.weather.gov/rev/ for information on South Lake Tahoe weather. 

While we should expect substantial snow cover on the mountains around Lake Tahoe, the amount of snow cover in town/at lake level will depend on season total snowfall as well as recent storm activity. 

How to dress:

We suggest packing layers and a warm jacket. Also suggest gloves, beanie, shoes that are appropriate for walking in light snow if snow is in the forecast.

Running

There is a biking/jogging path along the lake (flat terrain) that passes right in front of the hotel and extends for many miles. The path is plowed year-round.

Depending on weather conditions, kayak and paddleboard rentals may be available right in front of the conference hotel. The water is extremely cold in May (upper 40s) thus it is necessary to proceed with caution and be aware of wind conditions. Rentals are also available from South Lake Tahoe Standup Paddle, a short distance from the conference location.
